Kichcha Sudeep corrects Hyderabadi man at SIIMA: It’s Kannada, not Kannad

Actor Kichcha Sudeep attended SIIMA 2024 in Dubai on September 14. In a clip which is going viral on X, he can be seen correcting a Hyderabadi man on stage. As the man said “Kannad”, Sudeep reminded him that it is “Kannada”. According to SIIMA, he walked the red carpet to celebrate his passion for CCL (Celebrity Cricket League).
The Vikrant Rona actor took the stage on September 14 as a new season of CCL was announced. At that time, he corrected the anchor, who is reportedly from Hyderabad.
He said, “I understand when Mumbai people say Kannad. But, you being a Hyderabadi saying Kannad is not okay.” The anchor soon realised his mistake and said, “Kannada. Sorry.” Sudeep’s fans at the award show cheered him on. He then responded, “Yes, Kannada. Thank you.”
Here’s the video:
This isn’t the first time that Kichcha Sudeep corrected a man about a language. In 2022, he and Ajay Devgn engaged in a war of words on X (then Twitter) over Sudeep’s ‘Hindi is not a national language’ comment.
In 2022, Sudeep attended an event in Bengaluru and said ‘Hindi is no more a national language’. Ajay Devgn took offence and replied to Sudeep in Hindi. His post is loosely translated as, “Kiccha Sudeep, my brother, according to you, if Hindi is not our national language then why do you release your native language [mother tongue] films by dubbing them in Hindi? Hindi was, is and always will be our mother tongue and national language. Jan Gan Man.” (sic).”
Sudeep then took a sarcastic dig at Ajay, which led to a back-and-forth spat between the two. After a few hours, Devgn put an end to the controversy, stating that ‘something was lost in translation.’
On the work front, Sudeep will be seen next in Max. He has four films in the pipeline, which are at different stages of production.
